IntroductionLord's is a very unique establishment. It has its own identity within the area and combines traditional values with modern day society and vision. Its small classes boast a feeling of safety and intimacy thus enabling total focus on learning and progression. At Lord's we are totally committed to the development of each pupil, educationally and socially. We feel that each pupil should be prepared and confident when leaving the school to enter new opportunities and prospects the await them. CurriculumThe Curriculum is the back bone of the school and we must share the skills and knowledge with all pupils and give them an understanding to lead them forward. At Lord's we aim to coincide with the National Curriculum Framework and expect every pupil to work to the highest possible standard, working in teams and groups helps each pupil to understand their own personal development and leadership and also respect others. The Curriculum at Lord's covers the following subjects up to Year 9:
Before leaving year 9, options are selected and then the following subjects are taught in Year 10 & 11
ProgressAll pupils are internally assessed during the year and teachers will set their own unit assessments once certain topics have been covered. Yearly examinations are taken in June; this enables the school to produce an individual report for each pupil, which is then sent to parents. This provides both the parents and the school on the progress and effort of the child and helps set goals for the oncoming year. In year 11 GCSE examination are undertaken. SENThe teachers at Lord's work closely with each child, supporting and assessing them and identifying any needs that should be addressed, whether they are on the SEN register or high achievers. Sex EducationThe staff supports the teaching of sex education in partnership with parents. As a part of the curriculum, great care is taken in matching the approach to Sex Education to the maturity of the children. Sex Education is covered in Science, parents who wish their children to be excluded from these lessons, must contact the head teacher or Principal. The Sex Education Policy is available on request. AttainmentPupil's attainment is generally very good. All pupils are given encouragement and praise to motivate them to learn. Self confidence and esteem is gained by the intimacy of the school and teachers which help pupils flourish from the moment they start at Lord's. MarkingMarking is done on a regular basis and is part of the dialogue that exists between teachers, pupils and parents. Marking is done both during and after a task is completed. Marking should be positive and constructive with encouragement to do well. Homework is a crucial element of home/school partnership. It gives parents the opportunity, from the outset, to support their children in their learning, whilst reinforcing the work covered in school. Tasks will be set by each individual teacher on the day that it is timetables for. Pupils must write all homework in the diaries provided by the school. AwardsLord's works towards the BUMPA award scheme which encourages pupils to do well. The award scheme is available on request. |
