Physical Education

Curriculum :: Physical Education

Physical Education is provided to Years 7 through to 11. The sports we cover are as follows:

Basket Ball

Volleyball

Football - indoor and outdoor

Hockey - indoor and outdoor

Cricket - indoor and outdoor

Cross Country

Fitness Testing - circuit training and multistage fitness test

Each sport will be covered for three weeks. During this time each pupil will learn about skills, techniques coaching points and rules. After each three-week session, each pupil will be assessed on their fitness levels using a variety of tests. These include the Multistage Fitness Test and the Harved Step test. During school Holidays, each pupil will be give an open book test on the sports covered during the term.

The school operates a Running club after school activity during summer time and a circuit training club during winter time.

Year 8 - Theory and Techniques

We expand in year 8 only on the theory and practical of sport and how the body works

They will study:

The body in action, students will identify the various bones, muscles and joints of the body as well as studying the structure and function of the heart and lungs.

History of Physical Education - pupils will identify how sport has changed since it began in public school.

Skills and Ability in sport. What are skills and abilities? Pupils will learn how we become skilful and where we get our ability.

Media in sport - How the media influences sport (good/bad), technical developments in equipment and facilities.

Psychology in sport - Pupils will learn about personality, mitration, teamwork , stress and anxiety.

Diet & Nutrition - Pupils will investigate the importance of a healthy diet, nutritional strategies for sports people and factors that effect weight management.
